KATU: Congressman replaces vet's stolen flag with one flown at U.S. Capitol

PORTLAND, Ore. -- U.S. Army Veteran John Miller got a special delivery this week from Washington, D.C.

The package included a brand new American flag and a certificate showing that very flag had flown over the U.S. Capitol. It is now Miller’s to display at his Southeast Portland home.

Just last month, KATU met Miller after someone had stolen the veteran’s American flag overnight.

U.S. Rep. Greg Walden’s office contacted KATU after the story aired and wanted to help. The congressman arranged for the replacement flag to fly over the Capitol and be delivered to Miller’s home this week.

“I am so very grateful,” Miller told KATU. “I almost couldn’t believe it at first.”
