Greg Walden Announces $1.5 Million in Economic Support for Hermiston
Today, Representative Greg Walden (R-Hood River) released a statement after the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration (EDA) announced a CARES Act grant of $1.5 million for the city of Hermiston, Oregon.
"I’ve said it before and I will say it again - the Trump Administration and Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross continue to deliver for Oregonians and provide the support we need in our part of the state to help us recover from some of the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. This money will support new water infrastructure in Hermiston, helping to grow the economy and jobs in eastern Oregon. I am glad to see that the essential funding from the CARES Act continues to flow into communities in Oregon and I look forward to ensuring that sustains," said Walden.
This funding will help improve water, sewer, and road infrastructure within the South Hermiston Industrial Park which is projected to create 250 jobs as well as generate $70 million in private investment. This grant is a result of the CARES Act, which Walden helped usher into law in March.
This funding comes in addition to the EDA grant announced for Oregon’s Second District in late August. Learn more about the funding here.
