October 22, 2019
Press Release
Part of DEA's "National Prescription Drug Take Back Day" initiative to combat the opioid epidemic

Today, Representative Greg Walden (R-Hood River) announced the collection sites in Oregon's Second District for the disposal of excess opioid and prescription medications. The announcement is part of the DEA's "National Prescription Drug Take Back Day" initiative on Saturday, October 26. This day provides the opportunity for people all across the country to help address opioid abuse in their communities. Full details on collection sites in Oregon's Second District are listed below.

This initiative occurs the same week as the one-year anniversary of President Trump signing the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act  into law. The bill, championed by Walden, provided the most significant Congressional effort to combat the opioid epidemic in history.

Below are Rep. Walden's Remarks:

It has been a year since I helped lead the effort to pass the SUPPORT Act into law. It’s been called the most significant congressional effort against a drug crisis in American history.  Combating the opioid crisis in our communities remains a top priority for me, but it is going to take an all-hands-on-deck approach. I wanted to share an important opportunity for anyone who wants to join and help.

The DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day provides a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of excess prescription drugs, while also providing an opportunity to raise awareness of the opioid crisis and to educate our neighbors, and family, and friends about the potential for abuse of medications.

Saturday, October 26 is National Take Back Day. Now it is this day that provides an opportunity for our community to dispose of prescription drugs in a safe and responsible way. You can find your local collection site by going to my website at

I hope you’ll join me this Take Back Day as we take another step in our work to combat the opioid crisis.
