Press Release

Today, Representative Greg Walden (R-Hood River) released a statement after the Department of Transportation (DOT) announced it would award $5 million in Better Utilizing Investment to Leverage Development (BUILD) Grant funding for the Port of Hood River Project to rebuild the Hood River/White Salmon Interstate Bridge.

This announcement comes after Representative Walden worked with Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao to secure the grant, which will be used to fund engineering and other supporting studies to replace the bridge that connects White Salmon and Bingen, Washington with Hood River, Oregon.

"I appreciate Transportation Secretary Chao’s efforts and decision to award this critical funding for the Port of Hood River Project. This funding is welcome news for Hood River and the entire region. I worked closely with local officials and made the case directly to Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao about the need for this funding.  I’m appreciative of her and the Trump Administration’s support for improving transportation infrastructure in our part of Oregon,"  said Walden.
